“Ori zâci ciolan cu mireasmă de fag, ficior, ori că-ţi plouă în gură, cam tot aia-i, că dhe, aşa e cu ciolanu muiat în saramură.” Aşa zâcea bunicu’ Petry, că avea vorba scurtă şi mâna îndemănatecă. Odată înşfăca ciolanul de la spate al porcului, îl ţâpa în saramura pregătită de cu seară, l-o lăsa la marinare, apoi la timpu’ socotit o fiert ciolanul şi l-o pus la zvântat şi afumat. Afumătoarea era cu lemnu’ bun de fag, că aicea era dichisu’, să s-aleagă, să nu aibe niscai mucegaiuri sau de-alde alea, că “ne povesteşte lumea şi toată treaba o facem de oaie”.

Aşa prepara dragu’ bunicu’ ciolanu şi aşe ne-o învăţat şi pe noi ca să facem…
